Cannons Woods (0) 0, Romford (0) 3 - Pre-season Friendly - Friday 12th July 2024
Three second half goals gave Boro a comfortable win over Thurlow Nunn League side Cannons Wood in Kris Newby's first game in charge.
Fielding a side comprising some new and some familiar faces, Romford had the better of the first half exchanges with Amaree Robinson-Jones intercepting the ball 30 yards out and sending a shot narrowly over after 13 minutes. Two minutes later and Sam Elwood shot just wide. Almost on the stroke of half-time another shot - from one of a clutch of trialists this time - hit the crossbar. At the other end Boro's defence rarely looked like being breached and Qamil Devishaj - who played against Boro for Buckhurst Hill in the league last season - did not have a save to make.
Boro went close at the start of the second half but went ahead after 51 minutes when Praise Ogbebor was put through to tuck the ball past the Cannons Wood keeper and after 58 minutes Toheeb Elegushi made it two after the home keeper had parried an effort from one of Boro's trialists.
Wayne Baker, who had taken over from Devishaj between the posts at half-time, saved well with his feet as the home side made a rare incursion into Boro territory, but Boro made it three after 81 minutes when the same trialist whose shot had been saved before Elegushi scored, rolled the ball home after good Boro pressure had turned possession over deep in home territory.
The Boro squad included: Qamil Devishaj, Wayne Baker, Sam Elwood, Aundre Spencer, Derek Feyi, Amaree Robinson Jones, Toheeb Elegushi, Reece Hewitt, and Praise Ogbebor.
