Soham Town Rangers v Romford – Preview

Michael Woods21 Feb 2020 - 08:10

Fingers crossed for quick return to Cambridgeshire

After the frustration of Tuesday evening’s game at Histon being postponed due to the sudden, torrential rain that fell while most people were already travelling, Romford return to Cambridgeshire to play Soham Town Rangers on Saturday.

Romford and Soham first met during the 2011-12 season following Soham’s sideways move from the Southern League, where they had spent three seasons after being promoted from the Eastern Counties League in 2008.

The first time Boro visited Soham was in March 2012, when having trailed to an early goal, Boro fought back to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Kurt Smith and Jack Barry. Since then, Romford have experienced varying fortunes on visits to Julius Martin Lane, with two wins, three draws, and three defeats in all.

Last season Romford were well and truly beaten, with the hosts running out 4-0 winners. The game at The Arena earlier this season saw the sides take a point each following a 3-3 draw, although with Boro 3-1 ahead at one stage, there was some disappointment that the visitors left with anything. Romford’s goals that day were scored by Reece Tranter, Danny Nesbitt, and Giovanni Palmer (pictured by TGS celebrating his goal that day).

Soham are currently 11th in the table with 33 points from 26 games. At home they have won six, but lost seven of their thirteen fixtures, with their most recent game ending in a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Cambridge City. Prior to that, they beat Brentwood Town 2-1 thanks to a winner from Sam Mulready, who has scored sixteen times this season, including one against Boro in the 3-3 draw in early November.

The weather forecast offers some encouragement that Saturday’s game will go ahead, but in the event of a pitch inspection being necessary, please check back here or on social media for news.
