Boro face new opponents in county cup

Tomorrow night’s BBC Essex Senior Cup 2nd Round tie sees Romford come up against new opponents for the sixth time this season. Stanway Pegasus are the latest of these, with the Eastern Counties League Division One South outfit coming to Mayesbrook Park.

Stanway Pegasus History:

Although they were only formed in 2018, Stanway Pegasus can trace their roots back to the 1970s from Colchester-based Sunday league side AFC Pegasus. In 2022, after winning the Essex & Suffolk Border League, Pegasus were promoted to the Eastern Counties League Division One South.

The club currently play at Stanway School, Stanway, whose alumni include the singer Sade, musician Damon Albarn and his Blur colleague Graham Coxon, and paralympic swimmer Natalie Jones.

This season:

This Stanway Pegasus’s first season at Step 6, and they are currently in fourth place in the Eastern Counties League Division One South, three points behind leaders May & Baker, having won seven of the 14 league games they have played to date. In their most recent game, Pegasus drew 2-2 away from home against NW London.

While Romford beat Coggeshall United 5-2 at Mayesbrook Park in the 1st Round of the BBC Essex Senior Cup, Stanway Pegasus were drawn away to May & Baker, where they were 5-0 winners. That was the third time this season that Pegasus had scored five or more; in their season opener against Sporting Bengal United they won 7-0, and they beat Wivenhoe Town 5-1. Sporting Bengal United made up for their hefty defeat at the hands of Pegasus however, winning the return game 4-1.
