Romford and Harpenden Town face off against one another again on Wednesday evening after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Rothamsted Park, where Steve Carvell’s 28th minute goal for Boro was matched by one from Harpenden’s Mulik Rickman fifteen minutes from the end.

Eight players made their competitive debuts for Romford on Saturday, and in fact the home side had one player who had – just – played more often for Boro than them, as they fielded Theo Costa who featured as a substitute in the Isthmian League fixture against Soham Town Rangers in November 2019, and started against May & Baker EC in the Essex Thames-side Trophy, scoring the second goal in a 2-0 win.

The winners of Wednesday’s replay will receive £1,125 from the competition prize fund and will be away to Kensington & Ealing Borough in the Preliminary Round on Saturday 21st August. Kensington – who Romford played in a pre-season friendly a few years back – groundshare at Hanwell Town. Kensington were 3-1 winners away from home against New Salamis in their Extra-Preliminary Round tie last Friday. The losers will receive the consolation of £375 from the prize fund.

In the event that the scores are level at the end of ninety minutes, extra-time will be played. If the scores are still level at the end of that, then the match will be decided on penalties.
