FA Youth Cup takes the spotlight

Three of Romford’s sides came through the weekend with wins or draws, but there was defeat for Romford Flyers in the Essex Alliance League.

Boro’s First Team went back to the top of the Essex Senior League after an eventful 3-3 draw at Mayesbrook Park against Sporting Bengal United, while in the Essex Senior League South, Boro’s reserve side were 3-0 winners over West Essex Development – who had been top of the table till that point. Boro’s goalscorers were Lewis Gardener, Alfie Sasse, and Mohammad Yaqoob. Meanwhile, Romford U13’s had an impressive 7-2 win in a friendly at Saffron Walden Town ahead of the start of their Eastern Junior Alliance season next Sunday.

In Division Three of the Essex Alliance League, Romford Flyers were beaten 5-1 at home by Collier Row Wheels.

There is no midweek game for Boro’s First Team this week, so the spotlight falls on Boro’s Under 19 side as they face Ware FC in the FA Youth Cup Preliminary Round on Wednesday 6th September. The game will be played at Ware’s Wodson Park ground with a 7.45pm kick-off. Last season, Romford won 9-0 at Braintree Town in the Preliminary Round, but suffered a 4-0 home defeat against New Salamis in the First Qualifying Round.

Boro have played at Ware many times in the past, but not since 2018, so for those of you thinking about going, here’s a reminder of how to get there. The ground is in Wadesmill Road, just off the A10, so from Romford, take the M25 to junction 25, then take the A10 northbound signposted Hertford. Follow the A10 for about 11 miles and leave at the exit for the A1170. The trip should take about 50 minutes.

This coming weekend, a number of sides representing Romford FC will be in action. On Saturday the First Team will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten start to the Essex Senior League season when FC Clacton come to Mayesbrook Park, while the Reserves – who are unbeaten in their opening two games – play White Ensign Reserves at The Len Forge Centre in Southend.

In the Essex Alliance League, Romford A kick-off their season with a game against Redbridge Community Reserves at Robert Clack Sports Centre in Dagenham, while Romford Flyers are away to Changing Lives at Ladyshot Sports Ground in Harlow.

On Sunday, Romford FC Women embark on their Essex County Women’s Football League Premier Division season with a home game at Noak Hill against Bowers & Pitsea LFC Reserves, and will be hoping for a better result than the defeat in the recent friendly against the same opponents. The game kicks off at 2pm.

Also on Sunday, in the Eastern Junior Alliance, Romford Under 18 are at home to Cheshunt, the U16 side are away to Aveley, and the U14 and U13 sides both play teams representing Buckhurst Hill.
