A trip to Little Oakley on a Monday evening just 48 hours after a home defeat at the hands of White Ensign is hardly ideal, but it does at least afford Boro an early chance to bounce back.
Tomorrow’s game will be the third meeting between the sides this season with Little Oakley having the upper hand so far. Boro were beaten 2-1 at The Lawtech Stadium in an Essex Senior League match and then lost 3-1 at The Memorial Ground in the recent Essex Senior Cup tie. Following on from that tie, Little Oakley beat Basildon United in their Third Round match.
Recent Form:
While Romford were beaten at home by White Ensign on Saturday, Little Oakley also suffered a league defeat, 3-2 at Halstead Town, The Humbugs’ form having improved recently. Halstead’s winning goal on Saturday came in the 15th minute of added time. That defeat was Little Oakley’s third in their last six games in which they have also lost at Takeley and Barking, but have beaten White Ensign and Frenford.
The Acorns have won three and lost one of their home games in the league this season with Great Wakering Rovers the only side to leave The Memorial Ground with maximum points.
Romford’s recent form is four wins and two defeats in the last six in the league with those two defeats coming back to back in home games. Boro remain unbeaten on the road in the league this season, a record which we hope is extended tomorrow.
Previous Meetings:
Tomorrow’s game will be the ninth between the sides and the sixth in the Essex Senior League. There had been no previous meetings before November 2022 when the sides met in an FA Vase tie at Barking which Boro won 2-0. In total, Boro’s record is 5 wins and 3 defeats in the 8 previous meetings. In Essex Senior League games only, Boro have won 3 and lost 2 of the five games played.
Home Ground and How to Get There:
Little Oakley play at the Memorial Ground, Harwich Road, Little Oakley, CO12 5ED. By road that’s about 61 miles from Romford, which represents Boro’s longest league awayday of the season.
From Romford, take the A12 to Colchester, exiting onto the A1232/A120 slip road signposted Colchester N/Clacton/Harwich. Stay on the A120 until Ramsey, then take Church Hill (the B1352) and then the B1414 (Harwich Road). The ground has a car park.
